The annual Sandwell Nagar Kirtan is a vibrant and deeply spiritual event that brings together Sikhs and people from all walks of life to celebrate and honor the principles of the Sikh faith. Held on Sunday, 3rd November 2024, this sacred procession will travel through the heart of Sandwell, visiting multiple Gurdwaras, where the sangat (community) will participate in singing hymns (kirtan) and offering prayers.

Nagar Kirtan is a time-honoured Sikh tradition where devotees walk through the streets while chanting hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib, spreading messages of peace, equality, and unity. Everyone, regardless of background, is invited to take part in this special event. Whether you join for the entire journey or participate in a portion of the procession, you’ll be part of a powerful experience of faith and community.

Event Schedule

The Sandwell Nagar Kirtan will make its way through multiple Gurdwaras in the Sandwell and West Bromwich area, offering opportunities for the community to come together in prayer, reflection, and celebration. Below is a detailed schedule of the event:

9:00 AM – Start at Gurdwara Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji

  • Location: George Street, West Bromwich
  • The event will begin promptly at 9:00 AM at Gurdwara Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji with the Ardas marking the official start of the Nagar Kirtan. All participants are encouraged to arrive early. From here, led by the Panj Pyare we will take to the streets of West Bromwich.

11:00 AM – Arrival at Guru Nanak Gurdwara, Edward Street

  • Location: Edward Street, West Bromwich
  • At 11:00 AM, the Nagar Kirtan will arrive at Guru Nanak Gurdwara on Edward Street. This stop offers an opportunity for reflection and further hymns. All are welcome to join in the spiritual atmosphere and participate in the kirtan. It doesn’t matter where you join!

1:00 PM – Arrival at Gurdwara Amrit Parchar Dharmik Diwan

  • Location: Birmingham Road, Oldbury At 2:00 PM, the Nagar Kirtan will proceed to Guru Maneyo Granth Gurdwara on Popes Lane. This stop allows more community members to join the celebration and prayers. As the procession moves forward, there will be an ongoing recital of Gurbani and continued service to the community.

2:00 PM – Guru Maneyo Granth Gurdwara

  • Location: Popes Lane, Oldbury
  • At 2:00 PM, the Nagar Kirtan will proceed to Guru Maneyo Granth Gurdwara on Popes Lane. This stop allows more sangat to join. As the procession moves forward, there will be an ongoing recital of Gurbani (scriptures) and continued service to the community.

3:15 PM – Gurdwara Baba Sang Ji

  • Location: St Paul’s Rd, Smethwick
  • At 3:15 PM, the Nagar Kirtan will proceed from Baba Sang Gurdwara to Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Smethwick. This stop allows more sangat to join. As the procession moves forward, there will be an ongoing recital of Gurbani (scriptures).

4:00 PM – Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick

  • Location: High Street, Smethwick
  • The day-long procession will culminate at Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick, one of the largest and most significant Gurdwaras in the area. The final Ardas and kirtan will take place here, concluding the Nagar Kirtan at approximately 4:00 PM.
